Sean Roberts

Lead Pastor

Sean became the Pastor of Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church in June 2014 and has had the privilege (alongside many at CTR) of seeing a work of God’s grace in the church’s revitalization.  Prior to coming to Portland, Sean served as an Associate Pastor at New Life Presbyterian Church in suburban Philadelphia.

A native of South Texas, Sean graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 2009), and is currently a Doctor of Ministry candidate at Covenant Theological Seminary.

Sean has been married to Claire, a native of Portrush, N. Ireland, since 2012.  Sean and Claire often joke that they now live halfway between their families. Together they have three children: Lily, Isla, and Henry. From great food to deep friendships and breathtaking natural beauty, they love Portland and plan to deepen their roots here for a very long time.

Alden Groves

Assistant Pastor

During his time studying at Westminster Theological Seminary (Masters of Divinity), Alden served three summer internships at Christ the Redeemer. Upon graduation, Alden was ordained and installed as the Assistant Pastor at CTR in June 2024. Prior to seminary and coming to Portland permanently, Alden served as campus staff with Reformed University Fellowship (RUF) at Erskine College.

Alden grew up right outside Philadelphia (yes, that means an undying love for all Philly sports), but has always had a heart for New England, where he has strong and storied family roots.

Alden is joyfully married to Taylor (2015), who grew up in North Carolina (and bought a big winter coat for the Maine winters!). They have two children: Theo & Isaiah. Alden enjoys good food and reading and writing fiction and playing and watching sports. Together, he and Taylor love hosting and delighting in this beautiful corner of the country, where we pray the Gospel takes deep root.

Elders and Deacons

As Presbyterians, we are led and overseen by elected elders who make up what is called the session. Deacons are elected leaders that conduct the work of caring for needs inside and outside the congregation.
